Sending information to interactive receivers playing a generalized prisoners' dilemma

چکیده
Consider the problem of information disclosure for a planner who faces two agents interacting in a state-dependent multi-action prisonersdilemma. We nd conditions under which the planner can make use of his superior information by disclosing some of it to the agents, and conditions under which such information leakage is not possible. Although the problem is entirely symmetric, the planners only way to reveal part of the information is based on creating asymmetries between the two agents by giving them di¤erent pieces of information. We also nd conditions under which such partially informative equilibria are the planners best equilibria. JEL classi cation numbers: C72, D82, D83

The Prisoners' Dilemma Revisited
Cooperation has always been recognised as a fundamental ingredient in the creation of societies and the generation of wealth. As a concept, it has been studied for many years. Yet, in practice, its emergence and persistence are less understood. In the following a game theoretic approach to the study of cooperation based on the Prisoners' Dilemma is reviewed. Using a Genetic Algorithm, strategie...
متن کاملImitation Dynamics in the Repeated Prisoners' Dilemma: An Exploratory Example*
This paper investigates a deterministic evolutionary process governing the adoption of strategies for playing the repeated Prisoners' Dilemma. Agents playing unsuccessful strategies attempt to imitate the strategies of successful agents. Because agents' strategies are unobservable, they must be inferred from a memory of pairwise play and a knowledge of the strategy space. As a result, winning s...
متن کاملCorrelates of Cooperation in a One-Shot High-Stakes Televised Prisoners' Dilemma
Explaining cooperation between non-relatives is a puzzle for both evolutionary biology and the social sciences. In humans, cooperation is often studied in a laboratory setting using economic games such as the prisoners' dilemma. However, such experiments are sometimes criticized for being played for low stakes and by misrepresentative student samples. Golden balls is a televised game show that ...
متن کاملBelief-Based Equilibria in the Repeated Prisoners' Dilemma with Private Monitoring
We analyze in...nitely repeated prisoners’ dilemma games with imperfect private monitoring, and construct sequential equilibria where strategies are measurable with respect to players’ beliefs regarding their opponents’ continuation strategies. We show that, when monitoring is almost perfect, the symmetric e¢cient outcome can be approximated in any prisoners’ dilemma game, while every individua...
متن کاملExclusion and Cooperation in Social Network Experiments∗
This study examines the evolution of social networks within groups of six subjects playing a prisoners dilemma game. In each round subjects cannot discriminate in their action choice but can exclude others from their social environment. Four treatments are considered, varying the cost of exclusion and the information flow through the network. Observed cooperation levels strongly depend on the t...
